For me, finance, consulting, and education are inseparable.
Sustainable results arise where numbers, people and development are considered together.
At first glance, my career appears to be a classic finance career, but at second glance, it is much more than that.
I have built, scaled and transformed finance departments from the ground up: from loan agreements to grant funding and M&A processes, from insourcing to outsourcing accounting, from growth scenarios to turnarounds. In many of my roles, this path consistently led beyond the classic CFO responsibilities – towards CEO, COO or business unit leadership responsibility.
At first glance, my career appears to be a traditional finance career. At second glance, it is much more than that.
I have built, scaled and transformed finance functions from the ground up: from loan financing and grant funding to M&A transactions, from insourcing to outsourcing accounting operations, from growth scenarios to turnaround situations. In many of my roles, this path naturally extended far beyond the traditional responsibilities of a CFO, leading to broader CEO, COO, or business unit leadership responsibilities.
From traditional industry to digital commerce
I have successfully applied and continuously developed this experience in a wide variety of industries, from mechanical engineering and automation to metal processing and contract manufacturing, as well as commercial vehicle construction and, in particular, the dynamic e-commerce environment. In doing so, I have not only become familiar with industry-specific requirements but have also developed a deep understanding of different business models, processes and challenges.
The regular rotation between these areas allowed me to transfer best practices, develop innovative solutions and react flexibly to new circumstances. Particularly in the eCommerce environment, characterized by high speed and constant change, I was able to effectively utilize and further refine my adaptability and strategic thinking.
The reason goes beyond numbers
My professional roots are in Human Resources. My understanding of people came long before my understanding of balance sheets. That is precisely what makes the difference: financial topics should never be viewed in isolation. Behind every number are decisions, structures and above all, people.
This combination of financial expertise and human understanding is, in my view, the foundation of sustainable business success.
Sharing what truly matters
Education has been a constant throughout my career from day one. I pursued my own professional development consistently alongside my career—from certified HR specialist to business economist, bachelor’s degree and ultimately an MBA. These experiences continue to shape my understanding of growth and development today.
Sharing knowledge is not a side activity for me; it is part of my mindset. I do so as a tutor and lecturer, as the author of case studies and teaching materials and as an elected member of the Vocational Education Committee of the Government of Lower Bavaria.
This commitment is further complemented by my non-profit initiative, the "Lukas-Mungai Initiative".
